Liv Sansoz’s historic ascent of K2

Vuarnet Fellow mountaineer Liv Sansoz made history completing the first tandem paraglide flight from K2, the world’s second tallest peak at 8,116m, on July 28.  This memorable ascent pushed her to the extreme limits of her strength before she descended by paragliding with her climbing partner, Zeb Roche. Liv has become the second French woman to climb K2 without oxygen, more than thirty years after mountaineer Chantal Mauduit.

« Summiting K2 without oxygen seemed like an unattainable dream to me... but now it's done, and I still can't grasp what we've just achieved »

The duo completed their ascent without the aid of supplemental oxygen while carrying all their gear, a testament to their unwavering determination and commitment to the ethics of mountaineering. For Liv climbing K2 without oxygen was a dream she thought was unattainable, but her tenacity and courage proved otherwise.

Despite the prolonged effort and the fatigue caused by the lack of oxygen, they were fortunate to reach the summit with just enough wind to take off in a tandem flight.
