Bruno Compagnet
My name is Bruno Compagnet, I’m 57 years old, and I’m a skier. It’s what defines me as a human being, even though I am many other things as well. Still, skiing is the one pursuit to which I’ve committed myself fully, body and soul. Without ever setting out to do so, it’s what gave meaning to my life. Since 1994, the year of my first trip to Alaska, I’ve traveled the world to discover new mountains and meet new people. Today, I divide my year between ski touring in winter, and travel, surfing, and cycling during the other seasons.

What does Vuarnet represent to you?
It’s a historic brand tied to a great champion. It was—and still is—the benchmark in optics from my childhood. French excellence and craftsmanship… quality products with a timeless style.
What’s your favorite place on Earth?
Wherever I happen to be, generally speaking… There are several, but I love the Wild Coast in South Africa. It’s an extremely remote and untouched stretch of coastline, where you can surf magnificent waves alone, surrounded by dolphins.
What achievement are you most proud of?
Being attacked by a shark…
What is your greatest fear?
Having created the ski brand Black Crows.
